Summary
Summary review written by our editors.

The Force DS is the value story of PSE's 2026 lineup: the same FDS Cam System that powers the $1,799 carbon Mach 30 DS, dropped into a cast-aluminum bow at a $899 launch MSRP. It backs that up where it counts - roughly 340 fps on a chronograph at 70 lb and 30 inches with a 350 grain arrow, a realistic 277 fps at a 65 lb, 29 inch, 450 grain hunting setup, an 81.5 dB shot, and a draw cycle smooth enough to belie how fast the cam is. The compromises are honest and narrow: a heavier cast riser, a tighter finish menu, and a fixed 85% let-off instead of an adjustable one. In my experience the bows that actually win a hunter over are the ones that stop feeling like a compromise the moment you draw them, and this one crosses that line - the flagship cam does the same work here that it does on a bow costing twice as much. An excellent choice for the whitetail and Western hunter who wants flagship cam speed and hold without flagship pricing, particularly strong as a do-everything treestand and spot-and-stalk bow. Buyers who want a complete, accessorized rig for the lowest out-the-door price should also look at the Bear Whitetail Legend or PSE Brute ATK, and those set on the lightest carry and adjustable let-off should step up to the carbon Mach 30 DS. The Bear Whitetail Legend is a study in doing one thing deliberately: it puts a smooth single cam and a firm Draw Stop into a complete ready-to-hunt package that launched at $479.99 in 2021 and $499.99 by 2022. The headline IBO is 320 fps, but the honest hunting-arrow numbers of 265-291 fps tell the real story - this bow trades speed for a draw cycle your shoulder will thank you for. What I keep coming back to is how quiet and easy it is to shoot well early: a new hunter can buy it, set it up, and be confident with it inside a week, and that matters more than a chronograph bragging right at this price. It is a genuinely light, maneuverable, low-maintenance rig with a back wall that outclasses its tier. An excellent bow for the first-time whitetail hunter and the shooter who prioritizes a comfortable, quiet draw over raw speed, particularly strong inside 40 yards from a treestand or ground blind. Buyers who want adjustable let-off and more speed should also look at the Whitetail Legend Pro, and those chasing maximum shooter-to-shooter adjustability should look at the Diamond Edge 320. Pros
  • Runs PSE's brand-new flagship FDS cam on a sub-$1000 bow, and it delivers - around 340 fps on a chronograph at 70 lb, 30 inch, 350 grain, a touch above its published 335 IBO number
  • Smooth, controlled draw for a fast cam - clean rollover into a firm back wall with no sponge, and a valley that holds you without fighting the let-down
  • Quiet, dead-in-hand shot - roughly 81.5 dB bare with minimal vibration and no hand torque at full draw
  • Real at-home tunability at this price - EZ.220 snap-spacer cam-lean adjustment plus a three-piece tuning string let you square the bow up yourself
  • Rubber-coated grip stays warm and indexes the same way every time - a genuine plus for cold treestand mornings on an aluminum riser
    • Single cam draws unusually smooth, stacking gently into the valley with no late hump at full draw
    • Draw Stop delivers a firm, defined back wall you rarely feel on a single-cam bow
    • Complete Trophy Ridge ready-to-hunt kit under the $500 tier, no add-ons needed to get in the woods
    • Quiet, low-vibration shot from the limb dampeners, tame for an entry-tier hunting rig
    • Light and compact at 4.3 lb and 31 inches, easy to carry and swing in tight cover

    Cons
    • Cast-aluminum riser makes it a little heavier than the carbon flagships at about 4.6 lb bare - most hunters read the extra mass as a steadier hold, but anyone chasing the lightest carry may want to shoot one first
    • Fixed 85% let-off with no adjustment - 85% suits most hunters, but shooters who like to dial let-off down for a firmer valley will need to step up to the flagship Mach or Sicario cam to get that
      • Single cam trades top-end speed - 265-291 fps with hunting arrows lands behind faster dual-cam bows in the tier, so speed-first buyers may want to factor that in
      • Let-off is fixed at 80% with no field adjustment - shooters who want to dial holding weight up to 90% should step up to the EKO-cam Whitetail Legend Pro
