Youth Compound Bow Reviews

The Bottom Line:Hoyt has really hit a homeroom for shooters wanting a 40-inch axle-to-axle target bow. Everything about this, and the redesigned components was done to create the best, most accurate shooting platform possible. However, the price is borderline offensive with a bare bow price of $1899. To be fair, many... read full review

The Bottom Line:The 2020 Bowtech Revolt is a homerun, and deserves any attention it gets this year. The Deadlock Cam is a straight up game changer for shooters to have more ability in how their bow shoots. From a tuning perspective, everything is made easier, and gives shooters direct input without having to buy a bow... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Athens Summit 6 launched in 2020 at $824 for the base finish, rising to $874 across the standard finishes, with the 2021 edition moving up to the $949 to $999 range - direct-shop pricing for a hand-built, deeply configurable hunting bow. What the money buys is unusual for the tier: a 345 IBO that... read full review

The Bottom Line:At an $824 launch MSRP for the 2020 base finish - rising to $874 for premium patterns, with the 2021 edition landing between $949 and $999 - the Summit 7 sits above the budget-hunter crowd and squarely in the custom-shop conversation, which is exactly where it belongs. What that money buys is a compact... read full review

The Bottom Line:The AMS Hooligan is a bowfishing bow built as a bowfishing bow - a $399.99 launch-MSRP rig on a machined aluminum riser with stainless hardware, zero let-off for instant snap-shooting, and the WRAP cam's two draw-weight posts that make it a genuine 40-pound bow and 50-pound bow in one. Its long 34 3/4-inch... read full review

The Bottom Line:Prime has created a truly amazing lineup with the Black Series for 2020, and the Black 5 is possibly the most versatile of all four rigs. No matter what style of compound archery shooters find themselves interested in, the Black 5 is capable of doing any of them. The color customization is superb, even... read full review

The Bottom Line:Short axle to axle hunting bows are hugely popular for 2020, and the Black 1 is right up there as one of the best shooters. Although there is a ton of competition in the compact hunting bow market, the Black 1 really has a lot to offer in regards to a new cam system, a wide, stable platform, well designed... read full review

The Bottom Line:The 2020 Prime Black 3 is one of the best hunting bows produced this model year, and is made even more enticing if shooters have a desire to use the bow as a multipurpose rig for hunting and 3D. Prime did an awesome job building on what they have already done very well in the hunting bow market with... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Black Series brings a lot of really great features to the market in the Prime bow package. The Black 9 is a dedicated target bow, and is perfectly designed for shootability and forgiveness. Although Prime charges $100 for target colors on a target bow, the options of different finishes is outstanding.... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Avail is a great bow choice with the serious female shooter in mind. Ladies have a decent selection of bows, but the selection gets smaller when considering bows designed specifically for ladies, and ones with top of the line technologies. The Avail offers everything the flagship Mathews bows offer,... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Bowtech Eva Shockey SS was the first hunting bow the industry built as a woman's signature flagship rather than a de-contented version of one, and it holds up as exactly that: a 3.3-pound carbon-riser bow with OverDrive Binary cams, an 80% let-off, a compact 31.5-inch ATA, and a published 332 fps... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Enlist is done very well, but it may seem a little too familiar for some of the diehard Elite fans. It may seem like this bow was already released by Elite, and honestly it is not much different from some of the older models like the Answer and Hunter. However, it is different than the rest of the... read full review

The Bottom Line:Bear claims the Approach HC breaks all the "Get what you pay for" rule, and that is an understatement. The Approach HC includes some of outstanding high-end features, has great performance, and feels outstanding for any bow. When considering the $449 price tag, this bow could be fully rigged with high-end... read full review

The Bottom Line:The 2018 Kuma is the flagship model for the Bear Legend Series, and does not disappoint. Everything about the Kuma from the specifications to the shootability screams legendary hunting bow. With an $899 suggested retail price tag, the Kuma is one of the most affordable flagship hunting bows on the market... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Bear Moment is a high-quality, high-performing compact hunting bow backed by the legendary Fred Bear name. The specifications scream hunting rig, and shooters on the market for a high end hunting bow will surely love the MSRP of $899, which is on the low end of the going rate for an upper end hunting... read full review

The Bottom Line:The Bear Pledge is a discontinued 2017 Walmart exclusive that quietly re-cammed the proven Bear Attitude platform into a no-frills adult hunting bow, and at a retail price around $388 - routinely under $200 on the shelf and used market - it is one of the most bow-per-dollar entries Bear ever pushed through... read full review
