Editors' review

The PSE Silverhawk is a very affordable, ready to shoot bow package. It comes with a quiver, arrow rest, and sights making it a great rig to get started with. You'll just need to pick up a few arrows, and you're ready to hit the field.

Riser

The Silverhawk employs a deflex riser. While this design makes the bow look very simple compared to the high end bows of today, the deflex riser actually makes this bow much easier to aim and hold on target. This, of course, helps any archer, beginner or advanced, to be a more accurate shooter.

Eccentric System

The draw cycle on the Silverhawk is very smooth, easy drawing and does boast a pretty good back wall. Upon release of the arrow there is a fair amount of noticeable vibration. The addition of a good stabilizer and string leeches will do wonders to calm down the vibes.

When you look at the Silverhawk and Deer Hunter side by side there are some noticeable differences. The Silverhawk is longer axle to axle and has a deflex riser, while the PSE Deer Hunter is a bit shorter and employs a slightly reflexed riser. However, there is a little more to it than that. The Deer Hunter does allow for more adjustments and thus, can be suitable for youngsters. Were as the Silverhawk is well built for an adult just getting into the sport because of its ease to aim and hold on target.

Using the Silverhawk

The Silverhawk is best suited for learning. The beginning archer will find this bow to be very user friendly and easy to learn with, thanks to the very forgiving brace height and long axle to axle length. While this bow is not a speed demon, it is still suitable to take out hunting as long as you know your limits. Additionally, many shooters find this bow to be very adequate as a bowfishing rig.

Summary

For someone wanting to get into archery or just learn how to shoot, the PSE Silverhawk is a good option that will not break the bank. During its three year run (2007-2009) this bow was the most affordable in the PSE line-up. It may be questionable whether or not this makes the rig a very good value but the fact is, this bow is good for learning how to shoot along with being a decent first hunting bow, a good back-bow or even a good rig for bowfishing. Getting someone involved in archery is always a rewarding experience and with the Silverhawk it does not have to be an expensive one.

Good Beginner Bow For Me

Version: 2008 PSE Silverhawk

Rating:

Pros: Comfortable, easy pull, accurate, affordable

Cons: a bit slow FPS

Full review:

I am a beginning archer. Over the course of about six months I have used the PSE Silverhawk to improve my archery skills at the range. I picked it up at a flea market for $35 and upgraded it for another $40-$50. As a beginner, I have no other bow to compare it to but have found it very easy to adjust and upgrade. It has been a great learning tool. I am debating getting another bow to hunt with but am almost confident enough to take this one hunting.
