Bowtech Pro 40 Compound Bow
Bowtech Pro 40 Review

The Bowtech Pro 40 is a long-riser, single-cam target and field bow built from 2001 to 2004, named for the nearly 40-inch axle-to-axle length it launched with and refined by 2004 into a 37.5-inch, 4-pound-3-ounce FreedomCam bow with a tall 8.25-inch brace. Its value was never on the chronograph - a 292-300 fps IBO in its final form is slow by design - but in how it behaves: an exceptionally smooth draw that feels lighter than the poundage, a forgiving hold, and a quiet, practically shock-free release that owners credit with their best-ever scores. The 2004 FreedomCam is the config to hunt for if target is your game, while the Dually and Wheely cams let the same platform serve 3D and finger shooters. It launched at a $729 MSRP in 2004, so today it is a used-market proposition - budget for fresh strings and a tune and you have a genuinely accurate bow for little money. Setting one up, I would build it as a dedicated line bow and let its steady hold do the work it was designed for. An excellent choice for the target, field, and 3D archer who prizes a smooth draw and a dead-steady hold over speed, and who does not mind shopping used. Buyers who want factory damping and deep parts support should look at the Mathews Ovation; buyers who want a touch more speed and a binary wall should look at the Bowtech Constitution; and shooters who want a more compact, quicker bow in the same family should look at its sibling, the Bowtech Pro 38... read full review
