Editors' review

The Drenalin LD is very similar to the ever-popular standard Drenalin. Its limbs, cams, dampers, and string suppressors are all the same. If you want to find out more details about the internals of this bow, just read our Mathews Drenalin review review.

Drenalin LD vs. standard Drenalin

When it comes to differences this bow's riser is designed to be longer to better spread the bow's mass and make it more forgiving and stable. The increased axle to axle length better accommodates shooters with longer draw lengths. Once the standard Drenalin hit the markets long-draw hunters and archers began dreaming about trying this new SlimLimb technology. Unfortunately, the standard Drenalin wouldn't work well for them due to its limited draw lengths range. Simply put it didn't feel great because the axle to axle length was too short for them. That is why the new Drenalin LD was born - to meet the demands of those shooters who prefer longer axle compound bows with longer draw lengths. With the brace height of approximately 7 inches, this bow doesn't give up much performance for added stability. It has an advertised IBO speed of 315 fps, only 5 fps slower than its 33-inch brother.

Many archers say that the recoil is very low and that this bow has great shooting characteristics even though it's much lighter than its competitors. They also agree that while the LD is very similar to its shorter 33" brother (standard Drenalin) it's also more stable. If you prefer a shorter axle-to-axle bow or simply want a more compact bow with similar characteristics, you may want to consider the standard Mathews Drenalin which could be a better choice in this case.

Summary

To summarize, the Mathews Drenalin LD is a very lightweight, high-performing, and stable compound bow specifically designed to accommodate the needs of those archers with longer draw lengths. Due to its reduced weight, it is a nice bow for mountain hunting.

Great all purpose bow

Version: 2009 Mathews Drenalin LD

Rating:

Pros: Silky smooth draw with a smooth valley and negligible hump at the end. Firm back wall but definitely not solid. Well balanced bow that it's light considering it'd dimensions

Cons: Okay for treestand but can be problematic in a blind situation. 2x4 grip

Full review:

I use this bow for hunting, 3D and indoor spots and it is a great performer at all. I shoot 70lb limbs (maxed out at 73lb) with a 30" draw and was getting in the ballpark of the advertised IBO. I switched to grip for a Van Handle Pro Comp and it feels good now.
